How to Choose The Right Spill Kit?
Firstly, you need to know the type of liquid that's been spilled. All liquids are either oil based (fuels, oils, petrols, vegetable oils and other messy liquids) or water based (non-aggressive and aggressive chemicals). Then there are those liquds that fit a little bit into both categories, which are classed as general purpose or universal liquids. General purpose liquids are typically non-aggressive chemicals, such as automotive coolant, agricultural chemicals etc.
Now that you know the liquid type, the next step is to choose the right sized spill kit. Ask yourself, what quantity of liquids are you using or storing? Quantity plays an important part, but that's just the start: as sometimes it's about the type of kit you need - do you need it portable enough to fit into a machinery cabin or confined space? Then our 20L and 50L portable spill kits are your best option. But if you're in a manufacturing factory, industrial workshop, mining or a power station, with multiple workers and workstations, then our 120L and 240L mobile wheeled Spill Kits will be the best option.
Not all Spill Kits are the same
There are many vendors offering spill kits, and you might think that they're all the same standard and quality - they're not. Be careful about buying a spill kit just because it's cheaper. Some things to be wary of - spill kits with cheap absorbent powder. Our spill kits feature EcoSweep XTRA Bioctive Absorbent. It's virtually dustless, and will literally eat and digest the oils it absorbs. This digestion means that it won't leach out the liquid absorbed and it converts to a soil conditioner over time. In most jurisdictions EcoSweep XTRA can be disposed of to landfill - saving you time and money regarding disposal. Of course, you should always confirm this with your local regulatory body. EcoSweep XTRA is virtually dustless and is suitable for use in most indoor and outdoor environments. It's also silica free, so there's no hidden nasties, or risk to your health.

Spill Kit Colours - Why the Lime Green & White Colours versus the traditional Red, Blue and Yellow?
Traditionally, there was no uniformity on spill kit identification and colouring. In one workplace Oil and Fuel Spill Kits are in red containers, but at the next, they're in blue containers. It's even more confusing at Servo's when sometimes the bin colour is the same colour as their logo brand. It's confusing. Now, just imagine if other frontline safety devices had no uniformity - what if fire extinguishers were the same? The AusSpill Association was formed to bring a single unifying colour commonality to the spill industry, and to bring about an end to confusion. In doing so, the AusSpill Association developed the following uniform colouriung for spill kits:
- Oil, Fuel and Hydrocarbon Kits: Lime Green Base with White Lid/Trim
- General Purpose Kits: Lime Green Base with Gray Lid / Trim
- Hazchem, Chemical Kits: Lime Green Base with Yellow Lid / Trim
Ecospill proudly supports the AusSpill Colours. However, you can also get any of our spill kits in the traditional red, yellow or blue colours by request.
